Eden
What do you think of Eden? Is it trashy? Do you think it will get common? What kind of person do you imagine with the name? Any colors or images?

It's too biblical for my taste, but a very educated, religious guy I went to highschool with is having a baby next week (well, his wife is), and they are naming their daughter Eden. I thought it was a lovely choice for them, and so much better to hear than all the Madisons and Addisons and Gracies and Kaylyns that we've had in the Southern U.S. lately.
I'm a twentysomething Eden (trailblazer! hahaha), and while it's definitely rising in popularity, I just can't see it taking an Ava/Isabella turn and making the top ten... ever, really. I've always found it the perfect blend of simple (people rarely have difficulty pronouncing or spelling it) and exotic- I only know of one other Eden in my age range (a friend's younger sister), and a handful of babies/people who plan on using it on future daughters. Overall, I've greatly enjoyed having it as a name!
It's not trashy, it's just unpretentious. I like it. I'd use Edith first, I think - but I'm not sure. I can't help thinking that if I had to say it every single day, I'd start to think it sounded like "eaten." But normally I don't think of that. I wouldn't mind being named Eden. I knew an Eden growing up who had straight blond hair and dark eyes and was very strikingly elfin-looking. So that's my main image with it.

I like it. The people I know of who've used it are far from the trashy sort, so it feels more preppy than trashy almost... and yet not totally preppy. It can work on either gender, but I lean towards liking this one more on a boy while having nothing against it on a girl... and I much prefer it to Edith which sounds really ugly to me.

I adore the name Eden! Had our first child been a girl instead of a boy, I'm 99% sure we would have gone with Eden. I've always loved it, I think it has a lovely sound. DH took a little while to get used to it, but now it's his fave girl name!
I don't find it trashy and while it has gained in popularity here in Australia, I'm hoping it doesn't get too popular!
I picture a happy friendly type of girl, who quite likes the out-doors and gardens and loves art. I always picture the colour green when I think of this name, but that's probably because of the Garden of Eden I would imagine.
All in all, I love it! Oh and I love that I could use the nn Edie, as I love that name too. I just couldn't use it as a given name, since there's an Arabic word (DH can speak Arabic & members of his family do) which sounds similar and means hand!

I'm torn. On the one hand it reminds me of a trashy soap opera character I saw. Of course she was a bad girl type with a name like Eden. Very predictable. So for years I hated the name.
But I have to admit that the sound of it is gorgeous. And the nn Edie is adorable. I like other place names, real or fictional, so I'm trying to get over my Eden prejudice. It combines well too; Eden Victoria is my current stock combo for it.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Personally I wouldn't use it. But I wouldn't be as quick to judge it negatively as I once was. (If that makes sense.)
