I don't like or dislike it, for either gender. I get two associations from it. One is bubbly, cheerleadery, poofy-haired girls in the 80s, the other is Mr. Darcy. Ha.
In the US it was most common in the 70s I think. I've only ever known two, both female: my aunt, born in the mid 70s, and a girl my age, although she spelled it Darci.
