Olwen is one of my favorite Welsh names. I don't often get strong romantic or fanciful images from names, but Olwen makes me picture a beautiful woman in a long white dress, walking in the wet sand along the sea's edge, her long, wheat-colored hair blowing in the wind. It makes me wish I could paint.
Definitely Olwen, not Olwyn. That -wyn ending is so masculine...it ruins the name for me.

It makes me picture stout little old ladies in twinsets, knitting in the hairdressers. I've never met a Welsh one under 70 :)
huh! It makes me think of an owl. And grapes.
Yes!
That is a perfect image for Olwen, the one I get is very similar!

I think Olwen is beautiful, and it's a family name for me. It's white and golden and has this sort of light, billowy quality, yet it's strong and has a quirkiness to it. Spelled Olwen only. I have a major thing against turning -wen to -wyn in Welsh names because -wyn is masculine and -wen is feminine.

I list most Welsh names, including Olwen. I prefer it with the e, because the y in Welsh usually denotes a male name, I think.
I think Olwen is much prettier than Olwyn, but I like both spellings. The name is absolutely lovely, and I'd use it on my own daughter. It's exotic and quiet and lyrical. :)
