What nicknames would you give...?
Recently I was thinking about what nicknames would be suitable for the following names. As far as I came I found the ones in (...) to be fitting them allright. What do you think and what nicknames would you give? Here's my list:
Adela (girl, nn Dela [pronounced: DAY-lah])
Alakina (girl, nn Ally)
Cinnamon (girl, nn Cinna [pronounced: SIN-nah])
Ingvar (boy, nn Yves [pronounced: EE-v])
Joaquin (boy, nn Joey)
Liam (boy, nn Lee)
Lucius (boy, nn Luke)
Terezinha (girl, nn Terry)
Wynola (girl, nn Nola [pronounced: NO-lah])

Adela "Addie"
Alakina "Ally"
Cinnamon "Nina" I don't know why though
Ingvar -I really don't know
Joaquin "Quin(n)" or "Joe"/"Joey"
Liam - I would just call his Liam, it's a four letter name, it doesn't need a nickname
Lucius "Luke"
Terezinha "Zina" or "Teri"
Wynola "Winnie"

Don't mean to be rude, but this is a pet peeve of mine. Ingvar, nn Yves? That is very unnatural, and in real life, would never happen. People just wouldn't "get" it and so wouldn't abide by it. Same with Lee and Liam. They're full separate names, more or less the same length, and there's no reason to make one a nickname for the other.
Many of the others do seem natural though. Adela nn Dela is OK (though Addie is more plausible), and Joachim nn Joey works perfectly.

Adela~ Dela is all right, but I prefer Della (DELL-uh).
Alakina~ I think I'd call her Kinnie.
Cinnamon~ Dunno if I'd give her a nickname. Maybe Cindy or Cindy.
Ingvar~ Another I wouldn't use a nickname for.
Joaquin~ Well, for Joachim, I always like Jo and Joke. I think Joaquin's short enough to go without.
Liam~ It already is a nickname! I'd probably call him Lee, just as I call my sister Sair, but it wouldn't be a formal nickname.
Lucius~ I'm a bad person--I'd call him Luci. :P
Terezinha~ Tereza would be my first pick, and then Zinnie, Rez, or Tinny.
Wynola~ Nola's nice, but Wynnie would also be very pretty.

So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key.

Kinnie is nice as a nn for Alakina, aswell as Zinnie for Terezinha! Wynnie I think sounds too musculine as a nn for Wynola, but that's my opinion. ;-)

Adela (girl, nn Dela [pronounced: DAY-lah]) Dela reminds me of the Deli. I don't think I would give this name a nn.
Alakina (girl, nn Ally) I would also go with Ally.
Cinnamon (girl, nn Cinna [pronounced: SIN-nah]) I don't think I would use a nn for this name.
Ingvar (boy, nn Yves [pronounced: EE-v]) I think I would go with the same nn.
Joaquin (boy, nn Joey) I wouldn't use a nn. And because I don't pronounce Joaquin with a J sound I definately wouldn't give the nn Joey!
Liam (boy, nn Lee) Liam doesn't need a nn.
Lucius (boy, nn Luke) I might go with the same nn.
Terezinha (girl, nn Terry) I would go with Terry but spelt Teri.
Wynola (girl, nn Nola [pronounced: NO-lah]) I would go with the same nn. I would possibly even use Noa as a nn for this name.
Alakina (girl, nn Ally) I would also go with Ally.

Adela (girl, nn Dela [pronounced: DAY-lah]): Addie or Delli, but really Adela is too beautiful to nn
Alakina (girl, nn Ally): Kina
Cinnamon (girl, nn Cinna [pronounced: SIN-nah]) Cinny?
Ingvar (boy, nn Yves [pronounced: EE-v]): Ingvar is a Swedish name which usually does not get any nn. Maybe Inge (ING-eh).
Joaquin (boy, nn Joey): Depends on how it is pronounced. If it is pronounced as "Hwa-kin", maybe Hwa or Kin would be more natural for me than Joey. But I prefer Joakim, nn Kim.
Liam (boy, nn Lee): Lee is the only possible nn here, but I would not shorten Liam at all.
Lucius (boy, nn Luke): I would say Luci! Probably too "girly" for many, but I find this a very sexist thinking, as boyish nn are ok for girls. Or maybe Luce.
Terezinha (girl, nn Terry): I would probably use Terry too, but I prefer Teresa, nn Tessa.
Wynola (girl, nn Nola [pronounced: NO-lah]): Nola is a pretty nn. I would actually prefer Nola as the formal name.

Kina for Alakina is very nice! Yeah, I know Ingvar is a Swedish name. Wasn't sure if it had a nickname. :-)
Cheers,
Cheers,
Cinna, pronounced Sin-nah, sounds like people saying sinner, especially in english dialects that don't always pronounce the 'r'.
Hmm, you might be right about that. Okay then, how about Moni / Mony?
