The possibility of Bay as a nn is the one thing that makes me still like Bailey, despite Bailey being very much not my style anymore. I don't like Bay as a standalone, but I do like the water imagery that comes with it. I also think of bay leaves and bay horses (positives) and bay rum aftershave and Old Bay Seasoning mix (both sorta negative).
I love short, tidy, zippy names, so Bay's length is a plus with me, but I think I'm in the minority. Bay is probably too short, too naturey, and too wordy to ever be popular.
