Chance
What do you think of Chance for a boy? I've liked it for some time now but it has recently become one of my favorites. Do any of you think the meaning is bad? Because I remember people saying that and I didn't really get it I mean I think of the chances you get in life and not really of gambling or anything.
How many do you know? Would you say it's common?
I also like the similar Chase. Are they too close for brothers? Which would you prefer? Which one is more commom where you live?

My sister's boyfriend is named Chance and he is the only one I know. I do find it a bit odd. It is far too similar to Chase for siblings. I think I like Chase a little more but only as a middle name because otherwise it sounds like a verb. Like Chase Anthony sounds like telling someone to chase Anthony but Anthony Chase is better. Chance at least doesn't have that problem but it seems like just a random word name. I'm getting used to hearing it but I guess his mom had a thing for random word names as his sister is named Patience. Course his brother is Jayden so I don't quite get it.
Chance and Chase are much too similar to be siblings. You'd give yourself and them a headache.
I don't care for either name. They both remind me of cheesey soap opera style names. That's just the way my brain processes them. Also, Chase makes me giggle a bit because it's a verb. A combination such as Chase Arthur becomes, "Chase Arthur! He's getting away!" There are other verbs that I don't mind but somehow this one brings out the immature side of me.

I think Chance (and Chase) are all right as nicknames for Charles, and maybe even Christian, Christopher, and Clarence, but I really dislike them as names. Chance and Chase are wa-a-a-a-y too similar for brothers, and I'd pick Chase over Chance, if I had to choose. I wouldn't call Chance especially common or uncommon. I know two, both under 7 years old. I know one has a brother named Cash and a sister named Carsyn. When I was in high school, one of my classmates was pregnant and referred to the unborn baby as Chance because she took a chance with birth control and it didn't pay off, but she put the baby (a girl) up for adoption, and I'm sure her parents picked a different name.
I've said before that I don't think Chance is particularly positive as far as word names go, and I still feel that way. Yes, it can mean "opportunity," and that's nice, but it's only one of chance's multiple well-known and well-used meanings. It also means accident, bad luck as well as good, risk, and "leaving things up to chance" or "chancing it" can be seen as a reckless and thoughtless act. I like my word names to have positive, or at least neutral, meanings. Chance is like Tempest and Chastity in my mind...it doesn't work for me.

It's more of a dog's name to me.
I know a couple of Chases. I think they're too close for brothers. Neither are my style, but there are worse names out there, too.
I think Chance is kind of lame as a name period. Would rather just leave it in a pile on a Monopoly board. It's hard to take seriously. Chance and Chase are a little close for brothers. Chase, though I'm not a fan and think it should be left as a surname, is at least more tolerable than Chance though. I've never encountered a Chance and neither is common where I live because En. isn't the first language here... And even when I did live in an En.-speaking country, I never even heard of Chase being used as a fn until well into adulthood... and put it in the same category as Jackson, Taylor, Hayden, Cooper, etc... Except that Taylor is at least somewhat tolerable.
I'm not sure. On one hand I think it's silly, on the other hand I'm used to hearing it enough that it doesn't really affect me. So I'd say it's just okay for me. I don't think the meaning is bad, it's just what makes it silly... such a random word name.
I have two second-cousins on two different sides of my family named Chance, and one of them named his son Chance, too. I'm sure I've encountered at least one more elsewhere in life. So I wouldn't say it's common, but it's not obscure, either.
Yes, Chance and Chase are way too close for brothers to me. In sound, look, and the fact that they're both words. I prefer Chance of the two. It's warmer and less trendy feeling. Chase is more common here. I've known at least three my age.
