I definitely think Emeric can work. I actually find the Em- beginning endearing, and the -ric ending noble. I really like it. It is unfamiliar, but the pronunciation is pretty intuitive, and if you name your child Emeric, the unfamiliarity for people kind of fades when they meet him, if you know what I mean. Leopold, on the other hand, does seem pretentious to me. It would be nice as a middle name. I actually think it sounds better on musical instruments than children (especially violas, because of the regal sound, but I'm biased, lol). It actually reminds me of upholstery a little bit.
