Re: Emeric and Leopold
in reply to a message by Lavinia
I like Emeric. The -ric part sounds very masculine, so I don't think that it would be problematic to use this name. Emmett, which also contains the Em- sound, is used regularly for boys, and I haven't heard anyone say that it seems too feminine. Emeric sounds even more masculine than Emmett.
Emeric isn't too strange to use. It at least contains familiar elements (Em- and -ric), so I don't think that most people would find it too unfamiliar.
Of the two names, Emeric seems the less weighty of the two. I've never really thought of Emeric as being a weighty name. Leopold has more of a weighty feel. As you pointed out, Leopold has the nickname Leo to fall back on, which isn't too weighty, so that balances things out. I like how Leopold is off-beat and regal sounding, but I don't really like the -old part.
