BA from Aus - Evelyn for a boy

Evelyn Alexander.
Traditionally it was a boy's name but is now much more thought of as a girl's name.
What do you think?

Interesting to hear of it used these days! I like Evelyn for a boy hypothetically, but it's been considered a feminine name for so long that most people probably have no idea it ever was a masculine name. I don't think I would be brave enough to try using it for a boy these days. I'm glad they have him a common masculine middle name just in case, although I don't like the combo much.
Ick. Too girly for a boy, and I don't care if it started out as a male name.
There's a young boy in our town (Maine, US) named Meredith. Comes from a family who celebrates their Scottish ancestry, father sometimes wears kilts, etc. This boy is very confident.

Yeah, I don't agree that a boy having a "girly" name will make him introverted. I think it amplifies though what they tend to be. A confident boy becomes more confident but a shy boy can withdraw more.
Meredith isn't as popular though as Evelyn of course - ranking around 300 vs top 50 - but whether that really changes perception I don't know.

I think it suits girls better... would never be inclined to use it on a boy. While some such names suit boys better or can easily go either way, this is one where the crossover is best left on the girls' side.
I never considered the pronounciation difference before, but yes I see what you mean.
I've never encountered it prn'd eev-lin... only Ev-a-lin.
Totally fascinating! Doesn't it just kill off the stereotype of deeply tanned men with surfboards, fighting each other to near death for the last remaining Foster's?
I imagine they'll be pronouncing it EV-e-lyn rather than EEVlyn; otherwise it really would be hard to live with.
