Wendy

I used to know two wonderful sisters called Shirley and Wendy! Retro chic.
There used to be Wendy houses all over South Africa, but now I think they've been replaced in the national vocabulary by Zozos, Zozo being a company that makes such things, also portable loos, that kind of product. Made of metal, mostly, so uncomfortably hot but useful.
Wendy is firmly 1920s or 1930s to me. Those clothes, those cars, the friends called Rosemary and Diana, and indeed Moira and Angela ... the chance of dancing with a man who'd danced with a girl who'd danced with the Prince of Wales. Oh yes. Peter Wimsey, Albert Campion, Bertie Wooster.
I wouldn't use it, but then I've got a son named Peter.

I like it. I like Wendene better, but Wendy is also good. Never heard of a Wendy house... I only know a few Wendys period, so it doesn't really feel like it has a specific time period it's limited to. I think it's usable. It's not top of my personal list, but that's only because there are too many other wonderful names out there ahead of it and I'd have to be a rabbit to have enough babies to use them all. :-P Would be nice to see some little Wendys running around. Nice change from some of the trendy names.

Wendy sounds too flimsy to me as a full name. It's okay as a nickname for Gwendolyn, but I don't really care for it all that much even as a nickname. The good thing about Wendy is that not many kids around here have this name, so it's at least refreshing.
I live in the U.S., and haven't heard anyone bring up Wendy houses in relation to the name Wendy.

I had to Google wendy house. We'd just call it a playhouse here, but we have them.
I never thought much of Wendy since it only makes me think of the Peter Pan character and the fast food restaurant, but at some point a while ago it started appealing to me. It's very happy and light, and a neat sagey color. I wouldn't use it, although I'd consider it for a nn. My favorite combos with it are Wendy Epona, Wendy Georgina, Wendy Lavender, and Wendy Tallulah Frances.

I kind of like it. I do think it's dated, but I like the association with Peter Pan. I've only ever met two Wendys, and they were both pleasant. One was a staff member at my after-school care when I was little, and one is the mother of a friend of mine.
Judging from the other posts, it seems like Wendy houses are what are called play houses here in the US, so I don't have that association at all.

We do have them, but we don't call them "Wendy houses" (I had to look that up!), we call them play houses.
I like Wendy as a nn for Wednesday (since Wednesday sounds like "wensday"). I knew a kind of unpleasant Wendy as a child so I still shy away from it a bit because of that, also it is a tad on the odd-and-dated side around here. But I do so want to appreciate it because it has a vaguely witchy vibe. It makes me think of yelling children and aggressive cheerfulness (probably a subconcious melding of the food company "Wendy's" logo and Pippi Longstocking).
Someone on the board once came up with the combo of Wendy Saskia, which I thought was so bad that it stuck with me forever and ever and now I just love it. It's so abrupt and weird, just the way both Wendy and Saskia tend to be.
Other ideas:
Wendy Rosalind
Wendy Cordelia
Wendy Hazel
Wendy Susan
Wendy Juniper
Wendy Lucille
Wendy Rosebud
Wendy Demelza
Wendy Marilou
Wendy Angelica
Wendy Liza
Wendy Lulu
Wendy Ramona
Something about Wendy makes me want to go totally overboard and creative and just, like, throw paint around, so that's actually got me liking it more! It seems very...unabashed. Outgoing, outspoken, and screechingly happy and messy.
ok fine now I've totally got a crush on it too

i think of the fast food joint Wendy's. that sort of spoils the name for me. i think it's a ghetto name. and the name Wednesday has a witchy sound to me as well because of the Adam's Family tv show. also because Bridget Marquart's black dog is named Wednesday. i am not sure about a day of the week used as a name for a person?
I had to look it up too. It's a toy house big enough for several kids to play in outdoors.
Wendy! I vote for fun. I've never heard of a Wendy house. Here we just call them toy houses or something. I would totally use it, though probably short for Gwendolen or Wendeline, though who knows really.
Do you mean combos or siblings? I'll do combos.
Wendy Geraldine
Wendy Magdalene
Wendy Christine (so much -een)
Wendy Olivette
Wendy Lucille
Wendy Mairead
Wendy Rohesia!
Wendy Ludivine
Wendy Arethusa
Wendy Athene (I'm still going with -een here, even though it's wrong)
Wendy Clothilde
Wendy Custodia
Wendy Frederica
Wendy Fernanda
Wendy Giovanna
Wendy Nolwenn (this sounds better outloud than it does in my head)
Wendy Sarai
Wendy Isobel / Isabel / Ysabel
Sorry if I went too far out. I think Wendy goes wonderfully with more unusual names, most of the time.
