nicknames
Can I help prevent nicknames for Gabrielle? What nicknames are popular for this name? Does anybody know a Gabrielle. If so, what are they called? Anybody know a Paige? Any teasing because of Page? Any other uncommon names with little or no nicknames?

I knew a girl named Gabriela and no one called her anything but her full name, so I believe it's possible to escape a nickname. I've known two Gabrielas and one Gabrielle.I don't know any Paiges. I don't think there's much teasing potential. I do think it's kind of plain.

Yes, I think you can help prevent nicknames for Gabrielle early on. My mom named my older brother Jonathan and she didn't want it shortened so she made it very clear to family and friends. If someone tried to call him Jon, Jonny, etc. she would politely correct them. It did work until he got older and his friends began to call him Jon. Basically, there's no full proof way.
I don't know any Gabrielles, but I know two Paige's. The first Paige I know is 29 I believe and I don't think she's ever been teased. Also, I know a 6 year old named Paige and she's never been teased.
According to the book Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana these are no nickname names:

Gabby

EllaI know someone with the last name Paige. There is probably teasing, but I think that's true for any name. Kids will always find a way to single out other kids' differences. Paige is a nice name, she may go through phases where she doesn't like it but most people do that. It's also the name of a character on a very popular TV series, Charmed, so atleast the writers of that series like it. Plus me. I like it, too.Oh, and I would totally call Paige "Pai-pai" as a nick name. I'm weird like that.~~she came in through the bathroom window~~

First of all, don't get anxious, you can't totaly prevent nicknames, even if you choose a name that seems to not have any possible nicknames attached to it there are can always be nicknames that arise from personal appearance or character of the child herself. I know one Gabrielle who is sometimes called Gabby but not very often. Other popular nicknames are: Abby, Elle, Ellie, Ella, Ree or Bree. There could be a certain ammount of teasing about Gabby (flapping one's jaw, ect.) but not too much.I only know one very young Paige and I don't think she has any nicknames. Oh yes, there is Paige Davis the host of the TV show 'Trading Spaces' she's really nice and funny.I think if you like a full name and you don't want any nicknames strive to make it clear that her name isn't Gabby and she's not to be called that. It might take some correcting at first but then again most people I know call people by whatever they introduce themselves as! :)

I know neither a Gabrielle nor a Paige. Gabby is the only nick name that comes to mind. It's kind of difficult to prevent nicknames with 3 syl names. People just don't want to say the whole name when it's that long.

I know a Paige, and I've never heard her get teased. Some nns. for Gabrielle: Brielle, Brie, Gabby, Gabs, Abby... there's no way to nn proof any name, just call her Gabrielle, and make sure her teachers call her Gabrielle. Ultimatly though, it is her choice as she gets older, and her friends may shorten it, and she not mind.
