I pronounce them slightly differently. GWEN-ith and GWIN-ith. But I think of Gwenith as a masculine name (because of the meaning, and I swear I read once that it is/has been used that way too) and Gwyneth as feminine. I don't really like Gwyneth. It seems too airy to me. But I love Gwenith (on a boy). :)

Stats

Looking at Welsh usage, Gweniths have mostly been female (in use since 1882). There were s few boys though.

I assumed it was mostly feminine, but I just like the idea of it on a boy. I'm glad there were some so it's not an entirely crazy idea. :)

"wheat" is masculine? :) Actually isn't the beginning "y" in most Welsh names indicate that it's masculine? (i.e., Gwyneth vs. Gwenyth)

Yeah, I think it is. Not that wheat couldn't be feminine, but it makes me picture handsome rugged farmer man. Swoon. :)

I'm not sure if Gwyn/Gwen have gender, but I've always wondered that.
