Silvius or Silvanus?
Which do prefer - Silvius or Silvanus? An explanation would be appreciated, but is not necessary.

Silvius. It's a bit more down-to-earth (though both are quite OTT). As for Silvanus ... Well, look at the last 4 letters. Teasing galore._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

If I had to pick, I'd go for Silvanus, although both are bad for a child of today. For me, Silvius connotes a medieval priest and Silvanus has gothic overtones.Sylvan is an okay variation.

I like Silvanus better in theory, but in practice, Silvius would probable work better. Anything that could be nicknamed to Anus is generally a no for me. :(I like Silvio and Sylvain better than either, though--particularly Silvio.Array

Re:I like Silvius better. With Silvanus, I would always say "Sil-wan-us", the Latin way. That would frustrate the person if it was pronounced with a V instead of a W and it's a little frustrating for me, too. For some reason, this doesn't happen with Silvius.Unless you mean for it to be pronounced Silwanus. In that case, I choose Silvanus.

I don't care for either name, sorry but to me they sound like vampire names. Haha! And the anus part of Silvanus throws me off too.

I think I like Silvanus better because it just seems more masculine and Silvius sounds a bit too much like Sylvia! But really I don't think I'd ever use it and I prefer Silas which a form of Silvanus. Silas is actually on my favorites list right now! :)
