I can't shake the dated image of it. When I picture someone called Ivy, I picture an older working-class woman, the kind of woman who would wear hair rollers and a housecoat all day and gossip over the garden fence with her next-door neighbour. I just can't picture it on young people in the way that I can with other old-fashioned names. It just doesn't sound very elegant to me either but maybe has a different image in the States.
