I used to strongly dislike Alison and Ally but lately they've been growing on me a lot. I still dislike Allison but Alison has grown on me and I find it quite pretty. I really love Ally because I know a super nice girl named this. I dislike Alli and Allie however. Ali looks cute to me, too but would probably be to easily confused with the common guys name Ali.

So what do you think of Ally? How many girls named Ally, Allie, Alli etc do you know and what are their full names? How old are they? Do you think it's a dated nickname?

I kind of have the same issue with Penny. I love Ally but nothing it could be short for. I mean I like Alison but not enough to use and the thought of people spelling it Allison isn't appealing (no offense to the Allisons, I just don't like the spelling). I like Alexandria but also not enough to use.

Would Ally work on its own? Do you find Ally common? How would you spell it? What do you think of Alison? I was surprised to see Allison is common for babies, always seemed to me it was a 70s name (maybe 80s). Opinions?
