Australian Names
I know that's a hard one, but what are the names that are common in Australia not so common in the US? The only name that fits the criteria is Lachlan, I think!
Replies
The only people I know called Vashti are both Australians. But it's still rare.
Older-generation names:
Desley (Queensland, 1940s - I think it had a limited shelf life and was confined to Queensland)
Lorrae - 1930-ish
Valda - ditto - I've met a few
Dulcie - more popular in Australia than elsewhere in the early 20th century
Raelene
Noelene
Lucinda is popular now

I don't know whats popular in Australia so I wont dispute that but I know that Lachlan is fairly common .. I have a middle school aged student with the name. As for Kylie one person mentioned that actually was huge here as well so not neccesarily uncommon in the US.
Cooper & Finlay are both on their way up in my opinion in the US.

Cooper is very popular in the US, too.
It's top 10 in Australia, though.
aaaaand #1 where I am.
Angus is super popular? Never met one and it's only at #61. Could be a regional thing, though. Jarrah is interesting, where does it come from?
Kye is incredibly popular? Wow. My friend just named her son Kye. She lives in Australia. I only know that Kai is extremely common in Germany.
Do you know where Tiarne comes from? I know one that spells it Tiahn and four others (don't know the spellings).

Jarrah is the Aboriginal name for a type of eucalyptus (gum tree)

When I lived in Australia I met about 5 girls named Tiahn. I have never heard it anywhere else and it doesn't appear on popularity stats so it always confused me. It was pronounced tee-AHN. One of them definitely spelled it Tiahn I never saw the other ones write their names down, I first guessed it was Tiarne but I guess I was wrong. Tiahn.
Also I heard Hayley, Brooke and Chloe a lot. Oh and Hamish. That one isn't really popular anywhere else.

Don't know any Tiahns but I know three my age named Tiarna, Tiahna, Tiana. Tee-AHN-uh. Don't know where it's from either, but must be related to Tiahn.
Yes! I asked on the name facts board. Hope anyone knows, I'm really curious now.
I like Tiahn, but I've never met any.
I've known three Americans named Tiana - two were teenagers and one was a kid (maybe 9ish). I've never seen any alternate spellings of Tiana here, but my guess is that Tiahna is a spelling of Tiana and Tiahn is a short form of Tiahna? Unless it came from another name...

Can you look at my post on the name facts board? For some reason I don't think it's short for Tiana because many people have seen it as Tiarne. It just seems unlikely to me that people got Tiahn and Tiarne from Tiana which just seems so different as a name. I could be wrong but how would so many people think of it at the same time and spell it Tiahn and Tiarne instead of Tian?
I don't know but I thought there was a character or famous person to inspire so many to use it. But it doesn't seem like it. This name is a mystery to me :P

I live in the US (upstate NY), and Kylie is incredibly popular here.
Ditto! I'm from Wyoming and I know a lot of people named Kylie!
But in the U.S. I think it was mostly popular for people my age. All the Kylies I know are between the ages of 12 and 21... maybe it's popular in Australia for young kids/newborns?

Ditto all four of those, although Kirrily and Narelle particularly came to mind! Gah I can't think of any more.
