What's your Swedish naming style?
This test was mentioned below: http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/namequiz.html ... My sister and I quickly decided that it didn't reflect our Swedish tastes very well, as few names have the same connotations or style here and in the US.
And so, we made our own test:
http://quizilla.teennick.com/quizzes/21968176/vilken-aer-din-namnstil
We'd appreciate if you'd try it out. :)
It's in Swedish, but here's a translation:
Questions (should be obvious):
Vilket pojknamn tycker du bäst om? = Which boys name do you like the best?
Vilket flicknamn tycker du bäst om? = Which girls name do you like the best?
Vilket unisexnamn tycker du bäst om? = Which unisex name do you like the best?
Results:
Klassisk och normal = classic and normal
You like well-established names, that your children won't be alone with on the school yard. The old returning names can be okay, but mostly you think they sound too stuffy. Maybe you like names like Alice, Matilda, Anton and Viktor?
Klassisk men ovanlig = classic but unusual
It's likely you got your favourites from your grandparents' names. To pass on family names is important! (But perhaps not grandma Agda's or great uncle Gotthard's names.) What about names like Märta, Sigrid, August and Henry?
Klassiskt excentrisk = classically eccentric
You have probably been looking in the most remote branches of your family tree for the names you like. You like unique names, but they can't be new inventions. You easily brush off the somewhat skeptical voices on your favourite names. Perhaps you'd like Alfhild, Eugenia, Isidor and Gottfrid?
Modern men normal = modern but normal
Your favourite names don't have to have been around since the dawn of time, but you still think they should be well established. If your son gets to be "Oscar J", it doesn't matter to you. Maybe you like names like Isabella, Ronja, Oliver and Vincent?
Modern och ovanlig = modern and unusual
You like more unusual names, but they can't be too strange and eccentric. The returning old names are not for you, you like newer names. Maybe you like names like Noomi, Celine, Julian and Neo?
Modernt excentrisk = modernly eccentric
Your child is an individual! It deserves a name almost no one has had before! More common names can be all right, but only if they're freshened up with an innovative spelling. You easily brush off the somewhat skeptical voices on your choices. Your taste is hard to define, since it can go so many directions, but maybe you like names like Vilja, Pixie, Tiger and Razmuz?
Passé - eller bara före din tid? = passé - or just before your time?
You like the names from your own or your parents' generation. Some would call you out of fashion, but you're just before your time - sooner or later your favourites will return. Maybe you like names like Yvonne, Birgitta, Bengt and Roger? And classic double-names of course!

Wow, cool idea! I got klassisk och normal. I guess even in Swedish I like the classics!

My result doesn't really mesh with my own style. The only name I like out of my results is Oliver.

Mine was passé. I think that describes my Swedish naming style pretty well. I love Swedish names, but most of the ones I like are dated. For the quiz, I picked:
Sven (one of my favorite names! ♥)
Natalia
Anders (another favorite)
Marianne
Leopold (although I didn't really like any of the choices; I have good associations with Leopold)
Agneta
Malte
Jasmine
Magne (but I thought all the choices for that question were pretty awful)
Sanna (I had never heard it before - it's pretty)
Theodor (my favorite author's name)
Astrid (but I love Embla and Freja just as much! Idun is really cool too.)
Silas
Rosa
Olof (but I like Gustav too)
Rosalind
Erik (but I like Svante too)
Saga
Kalle
Elin (but I like Ulrika and Ellinor too)
Vilde (never heard this one - it's interesting!)

Here's how we classified your choices:
Sven - passé
Natalia - klassiskt excentrisk
Anders - passé
Marianne - passé
Leopold - klassiskt excentrisk
Agneta - passé
Malte - klassisk men ovanlig
Jasmine - modern men normal
Magne - klassisk men ovanlig
Sanna - modern men normal
Theodor - klassisk och normal
Astrid - klassisk och normal. Freja is modern och normal, Embla is modern och ovanlig, and Idun modernt excentrisk - not really, perhaps, but the theme of this question was Old Norse names, and it's hard to find something modern excentric then ;)
Silas - modernt excentrisk
Rosa - passé
Olof - klassisk men ovanlig, Gustav is klassisk och normal
Rosalind - klassiskt excentrisk
Erik - klassisk och normal. Svante is modernt excentrisk - it is really more klassisk men ovanlig, but the theme here was Swedish kings, and once again, it's hard to find something modern excentric there ...
Saga - modern men normal
Kalle - modern och ovanlig
Elin - klassisk och normal, Ulrika is passé, Ellinor is klassiskt excentrisk - not that excentric either, but for the theme "common 70s names" ...
Vilde - modernt excentrisk. As a girls name it's Norwegian and a short form of Alvilde (see Alfhild), as a boys name it's a new Swedish invention and means "wild" or "savage".
So you got:
Modernt excentrisk: 2
Modern och ovanlig: 1
Modern men normal: 3
Klassisk och normal: 4
Klassisk men ovanlig: 3
Klassiskt excentrisk: 3
Passé: 5

Wow, I didn't know Vilde was a modern invention! It's nice sounding though, I think that's true of a lot of Swedish words (like the ones in IKEA catalogs). I think if I had known that, I would have picked something else, though - not that there's anything really wrong with Vilde, modern inventions sound kind of silly to me once I know the origins, iykwim. If I hadn't known Novalie was a modern invention and hated by the Swedes on this board, I might have picked that over Natalia.

Very interesting choices....I typed out as modern eccentric. Not bad for my age. :)
Klassisk men ovanlig = classic but unusual
Sounds accurate :) Thank you! This test is super cool~

On your test I got
classic and normal
which is right, I'd say, but not generally speaking. Yes, I like Matilda and Alice. Anton is ok. I don't particulary like Viktor, but that's a matter of taste.
On namenerds I got
Your personality type is: Classic Unusual : 40%
Your personality type is: Classic Conservative : 20%
Your personality type is: Classic Eccentric : 20%
Your personality type is: Modern Conservative : 15%
Your personality type is: Modern Eccentric. : 5%
Your personality type is: Modern Unusual : 0%
Your personality type is: Classic Outmoded : 0%

I got modern men normal (modern but normal). My namenerds results, for comparison, are:
Your personality type is: Classic Unusual : 35%
Your personality type is: Classic Eccentric : 30%
Your personality type is: Classic Conservative : 25%
Your personality type is: Modern Eccentric. : 5%
Your personality type is: Modern Conservative : 5%
Your personality type is: Modern Unusual : 0%
Your personality type is: Classic Outmoded : 0%
One says modern and the other says classic, but I think the results are actually very much the same. Both your "modern but normal" examples and the "Classic and Unusual" list at namenerds include Vincent and Oliver, two names I love.

Your different results is exactly why we felt the need for a Swedish test - Oliver for example has a different history in English and Swedish naming history. Here, it was occasionly used since the late 1800s or so, but never got popular or very normal until the 1980s, while the English history of course is much longer. Some other names with a similar history are William and Robin, which I could have used as examples as well. :)
classic and normal -- no surprise there
I got "classic and normal". That's not my English naming style, although I suppose I like the same names. For instance I like Anton, but I like it because it's easy to say and unpopular. If I lived somewhere where it was popular and normal I might not like it as much.
Klassisk och normal = classic and normal
I like Alice, Matilda, and Anton, though I'm not a big fan of Viktor (too harsh). I'm not surprised I got "classic and normal," but lately I've been branching out into really "creative" stuff (particularly with girls' names), like Adelane, Cayenne, Emberine, Ever, Laureline, Pluvia, , Sylvana, etc.
On Namenerds, I got pretty much the same results:
Classic Conservative : 30%
Classic Unusual: 25%
Classic Eccentric: 20%
Modern Eccentric: 10%
Modern Unusual: 10%
Modern Conservative: 5%
Classic Outmoded: 0%
Of the names they gave me, I like some, but strongly dislike others, although I guess that would happen with each category. I also crinkle my brows at some of the more "kre8yve" names I've come across (I'm still trying to figure out what Xaynyn is). But it's the first time I saw Amberly, and I kind of like it...

Great quiz! I got classic and normal, which is actually really close to what I'm interested in lately.
