Briana
I always loved this name. It seems so classic and was used in a poem a long time ago (The Faerie Queene). I really dislike Brianna, however. I pronounce them differently, bree-AH-na (Briana) and bree-ANN-na (Brianna).Do you pronounce them the same? Do most people you know pronounce them the same? How many do you know (all spellings)?Trying to find out whether Briana is overused or not. I guess it is when it's pronounced the same as Brianna but I don't pronounce it like that. Or are there people who say bree-AH-na for Brianna? What do you think?

I pronounce them the same. I would use the bree AH na pronounciation for Breauna. I know one. My cousin's daughter who is 6. The spelling is either Breauna or Breyana and they pronounce it bree AH na. They are in the South though and I don't know if that is any reflection on their pronounciation.

I pronounce them the same way you do. I think you will find some people pronounce them the same and others don't.

I agree; Brianna is bree-ANN-na and Briana is bree-AH-na. I know one Brianna who pronounces is bree-ANN-na. Some people who have just met her say bree-AH-na, but to me it's bree-ANN-na.

It was a long time ago, but I have a feeling that back in my days of reading the FQ at university, we pronounced it Brian-a.
I've never met any at all of any spelling. Brianna and variants, afaik, was a US 70s/80s thing. I like the Bria part, but not too keen on -ana and -anna names.

I like Briana or Brianna, pronounced brie-ANN-a or BRIE-an-a (like Brian + -a). Not sure how accurate it is irl, but that's how it's pronounced in Outlander (by the Scottish people, anyway).I don't like either of the two pronunciations you mentioned. Where I live Briana and Brianna are usually both bree-ANN-a. Bree-AH-na is more of an African-American pronunciation in my experience, and is sometimes spelled Brionna so people will know that's the pronunciation they want. But either way spelling it Brianna or Briana wouldn't change how it was said.I feel like Brianna etc. are dated to the 90s.

I know some Briannas who pronounce it bree-AN-na and some who pronounce it bree-AH-na. Most people seem to pronounce Briana like bree-AH-na, though. I've seen a few who spell it Briona/Brionna, probably to make sure no one ever mispronounces their name, though it looks an awful lot like bree-OWN-uh to me. I've also met a few who spell it Breanna or something similar to make sure they get the bree-AN-na pronunciation. My favorite version is Briana pronounced your way, but there are so many variations on this name, it makes me tired. No matter what the spelling or pronunciation, I think this name is worn out. That said, I've always considered it pretty, and I still do. Briana would make a lovely middle name. I like the combo Maeve Briana. eta: clarity

I pronounce Briana and Brianna the same way you do. I also like Briana and not Brianna.
I know at least one Briana who pronoucnes it "Brianna", but I *think* most people where I live pronounce them differently. It does seem that "Brianna" for both spellings id getting more popular, though.

I used to really like it when I was younger. I used to watch an american TV show about a call named Brianna who lived with her dad and loved basketball. No idea now what it was called. But anyway, she made me like the name. I pronounce Brianna Bree-ah-na and prefer the extra N personally. I know absoloutely none - probably because i'm from the UK and i see it as quite an american name.

I live in Massachusetts, and bree-AH-na is the standard pronunciation for Brianna/Briana/Bryanna/Breiyaannah etc.I really love Briana pronounced /BREE uh na/ (how I've heard it pronounced in reference to the Faerie Queene), but I'm sure nobody would ever pronounce it that way.

I like BREE-ah-na, too. As long as it's AH-na and not ANN-na.
