Mavourneen...
I've recently stumbled upon this rare Irish name, and I'm rather falling in love with it. What do you think of Mavourneen? Can you think of any combos for her?
Replies
ooooo I really like it! Mavourneen Claire was the first combo to come to mind
For some reason right when I read it, it reminded me of "Wolverine". I like the uniqueness and the sentiment, but for me it just doesn't roll of the tongue nicely.
I'm trying to like it, but it's just not for me. Never heard of it before though.
It is interesting but it reminds me of Maureen which I don't like.

Mavourneen is so cool. I'd swoon if someone used it in real life! I'm having trouble thinking of combos with Mavourneen as a fn...it's easier as a mn, I think.
June Mavourneen (I actually prefer June Padraigin)
Agnes Mavourneen
Ruth Mavourneen
Celia Mavourneen
Joan Mavourneen
Patricia Mavourneen
Oh, and WDYT of Mavourneen Rose? Rose is usually so blah as a mn but here I like it.

Marigold Mavourneen would be just stunning!
It's not really a name, it's a term of endearment, like sweetie pie or honey bun or something. It's a phonetic spelling of ma mhuirnín, which means "my darling." (Famous in the song Kathleen Mavourneen) Anyway, as a name it sounds nice enough, maybe for a pet... I can't really see it on a person.
A really like it, but it seems possibly silly to me because of the meaning. I imagine Irish people using it as a term of endearment. Like you'd call your kid that, akin to saying dear or darling. But I actually don't know if that's true. If anyone could confirm whether or not it's really used that way, and it isn't, then I'd be happy to really like it as a name.
I think it's enchanting.

I like it! It's almost like an elaborated form of Maureen, but more unique. I think it would go well with short, sweet, one-syllable MNs (Mavourneen Rose, Mavourneen Grace, Mavourneen Love, Mavourneen Lark), but also:
Mavourneen Louisa
Mavourneen Elaine
Mavourneen Eloise
Mavourneen Therese
Mavourneen Lucia
Mavourneen Scarlett
Mavourneen Cosette
Mavourneen Martha

How do you pronounce it? I used to like this name too but I wasn't sure if it was pronounced as it looks or not.
