Demetrius
I had a great-great-grandfather named Demetrio, and lately I was thinking about the Latinized form Demetrius. I still prefer the Italian form, but I think Demetrius would work better. I've known one or two. What do you think of the name Demetrius?

I love Demetrius. It's the name of a man who was like a grandfather to me - he was one of my mom's professors when she was working on her MFA in art history and it's because of him that I have such a love and appreciation for art and history today. And why I so badly wanted to be an Egyptologist for years! So I've got a strong love of the name because of it's association to him.

I like it =)I like Demetrio too. Also Dimitri and Demetrios. I don't know about Demetrius "working" better, but the Latin form does seem to be least specific about national origins, where I live. I'm white and I would slightly expect a Demetrius to be African-American - which isn't negative if you're not black, I just thought it was of interest.I wonder if I should add it to my list... hm.

AgreeI would also expect a Demetrius to be African-American, since it's fairly popular in that culture. The only ones I've ever heard of were African-American, but I don't think it would be weird to see on a white person, either. I do think it's a nice name.
