Some new faves for you to rate and a pronunciation question
Here are some that have caught my attention. I'm in a retro phase ;) Looking forward to your comments:Julie - so simple and pretty. I like it better than Julia. Ready for a comeback?
Robin - for a girl but I also like it on a boy. I just dislike Robyn, do you think people would spell it that way?
Carrie - would it work on its own? Or Caroline nn Carrie? Carolyn nn Carrie? Do you pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same? If so do you live in the US?
Mary - good girl-name and I like it more and more
Melissa - may be a bit dated but I love the meaning and sound
Jessie - full nameJames - growing on me, no nicknameDo you pronounce Aron and Aaron the same? How about Aron, Aaron and Erin? Do you live in the US?Thanks :)

I do like Julie - maybe it should make a comeback.
I don't think people will spell it Robyn. Robin is better anyway. I don't really feel this one is ready for a comeback though.
Carrie can work on it's own and yes I pronounce them the same and live in the US.
Mary - I've really been liking this
Melissa - love this
Jessie - not so sure about as a full name. If I hear Jessie isn't short for anything I normally think boy but this spelling is girly so I don't know.James - nice and better than any of the nicknames though Jamie can be nice.Yep pronounce them all the same and live in US

Julie - Reminds me of mothers, because I know quite a few named Julie. I much prefer Julia.
Robin - I hate it. I've always hated it, even as a little girl. I'm not quite sure why. I can't picture it on a boy, though, definitely a girl's name to me.
Carrie - I actually love the spelling Keri. I pronounce Carrie, Kerry, Keri, etc. all the same way. I would go Caroline nn Carrie, I think it's adorable! Not a fan of Carolyn.
Mary - Too plain for me. Almost more boring than Jane.
Melissa - I think it's too dated. Not a huge fan of the sound.
Jessie - I like it, but I would definitely do it as a nickname, not a full name.
James - Absolutely love it! I agree, no nickname. I love the sound, it's very classic.Aaron and Aron are pronounced the same.
Erin is pronounced the same as well, but I think of it as a totally different name. I was actually thinking about it a couple days ago - it only really occurred to me that they were pronounced the same when I had an Aaron and an Erin in a summer class I was taking.

Julie-My problem is that it's not a name. It's like naming your kid Jack or Max or Frank. I much prefer Julia.
Robin-Simple, but I like it.
Carrie-Once again, I don't like it on its own.
Mary-Love it.
Melissa-I've always liked Melissa. I couldn't picture it on a kid though, I picture a woman in her thirties.
Jessie-Same as Carrie and Julie. Jessica is much prettier.
James-Don't like James, but I love Jim.I pronounce all the Aaron and Erin names the same. I live in the US.

No, it's the French form of Julia and it's very much a name and a full name at that.

Julie - I'm the opposite: I much prefer Julia. Julia seems deep to me somehow, while Julie sounds shallow. I don't think Julie is ready for a comeback or will be for a long time, not with Julia, Juliet, and Juliana at center stage getting all the attention of modern parents.
Robin - I do prefer Robin as a nickname for Robert, but I like bird names quite a bit, so I like Robin for a girl. I don't like Robyn, either, and I think people might occasionally assume Robyn instead of Robin, but it won't be a daily thing.
Carrie - As a nickname for Caroline, Carolyn, or Carol, then yes. By itself, no. It sounds babyish.
Mary - Beautiful, stately, and strong. Mary deserves all the love she can get.
Melissa - I've always liked this name. I recently met a baby Melissa, and I was delighted. It was very fresh and surprising on a baby.
Jessie - Much worse than Carrie. I like Jessica and Jesse (b), but Jessie (g) is not substantial enough to stand on its own. James - It's grown on me, too. I agree...no nickname. James in full is handsome and loaded with charm. I'm in the US, and I pronounce Carrie and Kerry and Aron/Aaron/Erin the same.

Julie - Very pretty. I'm partial to Julia, but definitely ready for a comeback.
Robin - I don't know anyone who would assume it was spelt Robyn. I don't like this name, though I wish I did.
Carrie - I don't like Carrie, either. It can stand alone, but wouldn't be out of plaace as a nickname. Caroline is much to pretty too need a nickname, though. And yes, I pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same. I live in the U.S.
Mary - Simple. Gorgeous. A little bland but not overly common.
Melissa - I really like Melissa, too.
Jessie - I don't like Jessie as a fullname. Or at all. Sorry.James - I feel the same way about James as I do about Alexander, Henry and Charles. Strong, regal, handsome name but the nicknames put me off. None of these names need nicknames! Still an awesome name.Do you pronounce Aron and Aaron the same? How about Aron, Aaron and Erin? Do you live in the US? I pronounce them all the same and yes, I live in the U.S.

Julie -Bleh. I hate it. But I may be a bit biased, as my name is Julia and people are always trying to call me Julie. It drives me nuts.
Robin -It's kind of masculine and dated, but won't scar your child for life or anything.
Carrie -Waaaaaaay too cutesy as a full name. Caroline is gorgeous, though (Carolyn is really not ready for a comeback). I do not pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same. Carrie is KA-ree (A as in apple) and Kerry is KEH-ree. I'm in the US.
Mary -I love it. You can't go wrong here.
Melissa -Ruined for me by personal association. But that aside, it's fluffy and insubstantial. All the -issa names are pretty but really lightweight.
Jessie -Way, way, way too cutesy.James -See Mary.Aron: AA-rin (A as in apple) or AH-rin
Aaron: AIR-in (A as in chair)
Erin: EH-rin

Julie - I'm not a fan. I have an auntie named Julie who i'm not too fond of, probably doesn't helpRobin - People will spell it how the child spells it. I like Robin on both girls and boys, this spelling onlyCarrie - I think It can stand on its own, though i'm not a fan. I think of the character in the Stephen King novel. I pronounce them differently, i'm from the UKMary -I like it but don't quite love it. I'm getting there thoughMelissa - I've always been a fan of Melissa. I think it would be sweet on a baby, not datedJessie - DislikeJames - Like you i prefer no nickname. I really like it, but I have a really bad association with a Jamie/Jay so could never use it
I pronounce Aaron and Aron the same. But Erin Differently

Julie - It's OK, but very dated to me. My Mum has at least 5 acquaintances called Julie - all about the same age - so I find it hard to imagine it on a different age group. It could be a nice nickname, I would use it as a nickname for Juliet.
Robin - I don't really like it on a girl, but I still prefer this spelling over the Y spelling. I suppose it depends how common the Y spelling is in your area. Where I live both names are unusual so I think people would spell it like the boys name originally.
Carrie - Could work on it's own. Nicknamey names are getting common (here at least) like Lily and Evie, so I don't see why Carrie would be any different. However, I do prefer Caroline with the nickname Carrie. I pronounce Carrie and Kerry differently - Carrie with an "ah" sound and Kerry with an "eh" sound, like they're spelt - but I don't live in the US
Mary - I find it rather dull I'm afraid.
Melissa - OK but nothing special for me. It's just alright.
Jessie - Again, if other nicknames can work I don't see why Jessie is any different. It's very cute! I would prefer Jessamine with the nickname Jessie though.James - Very niceDo you pronounce Aron and Aaron the same? How about Aron, Aaron and Erin? Do you live in the US? I pronounce Aron and Aaron the same (ah-ron) and Erin differently (eh-rin), but I don't live in teh US, Ilive in the UK.

Julie - I like Julia better. Julie is a bit plain & was really common when I was growing up.
Robin - It isn't a favorite for either gender for me. It just feels really dated for both.
Carrie - Of course, it can work on it's own. It actually has for years (#20 back in 1880!). I don't understand why this isn't more popular. Maybe because in the 70's/80's there were a ton of Carrie/Kerri/Kerry/Keri/Kara/Cara type names. I like it as a nickname as well. I do pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same and I live in the US.
Mary - This is starting to grow on me. It was one of my most hated names because I found it super boring but now I am finding it sweet
Melissa - Ok name. Kind of lead to the popularity of Alyssa, Larissa, Clarissa type names imo
Jessie - I only like as a nickname. And I have seen Jessie, this spelling, as a male given name.
James - I like it best with no nickname. Very distinguished & handsomeI pronounce Aaron & Erin (air IN) the same. Aron, I would pronounce slightly differently, more like air RON.

Julie - Prefer Julie, very pretty not currently overused.
Robin - I have a 27-yr old dd with this name; she's always loved it.
Carrie - Prefer Kerry, but like both. I live in the US and pronounce them differently--Carrie with an "a" as in laugh.
Mary - Love it. For its elegance and humility and the way it rolls off the tongue.
Melissa - All I like about this name is the potential nn Liss.
Jessie - Better than Jessica but I think people will assume Jessica. Maybe not. James - Love it. Love Jane for all the same reasons--see Mary above.I live in the US and pronounce Aron and Aaron the same way. See Carrie above. Erin with a sound like "care". (Prefer Aerin spelling for this name).

The only one on the list that I like is Julie (my name). I love my name. It is fun and feminine. Ready for a comeback IMO.

Julie: I'm not a big fan but I also don't like Julia so that could have something to do with it.
Robin: I actually prefer this spelling on both genders. I think the spelling is just as unisex as the name is.
Carrie: I prefer it as a nn for Caroline
Mary: Hmm still not sold on this one
Melissa: I love the meaning but I still feel it is too dated, it is very pretty though and if I saw it on a child under 5 I think i would be pleasantly surprised/
Jessie: Hmm I only like Jesse as a full name on boys. Love Jessie as a nn on girls short for Jessamine.James: Love it without a nn, so handsome and strong
Pronunciation: I pronounce Aron and Aaron the same but Erin is completely different for me. Aaron is arin and Erin is erin if that makes sense, just the initial sound is different. For me, Kerry and Carrie are also different. Kerry is KER-ee and Carrie is KAR-ee. I live in New Zealand :)
