I like Catherine. It feels softer & more classic than Katherine. I do find Cathy very dated though.
I know a Cathy (not sure if her full name is just Cathy or not) who is in her 50's, a Cathy (I think short for Catherine but maybe Cathleen) who is in her 40's and a Catherine who goes by Catie who is about 30.
Most Katherine's (or any K variant) I know go by Kate or Katie (maybe about 10) but 2 go by Katherine, both are about 30, and one goes by Kathy-she is 25. And I have always thought Kathy sounded dated on her.
