Holden
What do you think of Holden? I rather like it. Do you know anyone named this?

I hate it!It's because of that whiny, obnoxious brat from The Catcher in the Rye.

I like it but it's one of the lowest rated names on my PNL. I've never personally met anyone with this name

I know of an author, Holden Scott. Wrote a book called Skeptic. It's quite good, so I don't mind the name.

I don't know anybody named that but it always sounds too close to holding to me like if someone introduced themselves as Holden Alexander Smith it sounds like "Hi, I'm holding Alexander Smith." weird example but that's what I think of.

I know, I lived in Australia. But somehow the association is still not strong at all, I forget about it every once in a while ;) I don't think it matters.

I don't like it and don't know anyone by this name but I think it'd be a fairly easy name to wear. It's easy to spell, write, pronounce. It's laid back and fits in with todays trends. Plus you have a literary reference which is always a plus in my book.

I love it. I read a book with the lead character named this and I've liked it since. Never met anyone in real life with this name though.

The Catcher in the Rye? ;) Or is there another book with a lead named Holden? Would be interesting to know.

No, not The Catcher in the Rye actually. It was a book called Unlocked by Karen Kingsbury. Awesome writer.

I really dislike it. It makes me think of the word beholden and holding but mostly I dislike the book and character. Other than that it sounds like a fairly typical trendy surname/-en name. I don't know any.

I like it in relation to the book Catcher in the Rye. Agree with PPs it's easy to spell and say, have a gentle laid back feel to it. Like it a lot. Don't know anyone, though there's someone on Nameberry who has one.

Love it. Would bestow it upon my son, if I planned on having children.

I can see the appeal. "Normal" feeling in that it seems to fit the pattern of a lot of the more popular boys names right now. But different enough that there aren't 14 of them on your street, each with their own spelling. I don't mind the name myself - although it does keep making me think of the word "beholden" strangely. And no, I've never met anyone named Holden.

My sister's neighbor's new grandson is named Holden Glenn. I quite like it. I don't know if I like Holden enough to use it myself but I like seeing others use it.
It fits in with the current trends (surname, ends in -en) but doesn't feel trendy to me. I think it is very versatile in that I can picture a Holden several differnt ways. I think it can go Southern gentleman, intellectual collegiate or sensitive naturalist. With the right middle name, it could even go Western/Cowboy.
