Ffion
What do you think of Ffion? It means "foxglove" in Welsh, which I think it a lovely meaning! The double F looks a bit strange but it sounds very pretty in my opinion.

I like it.I think it's pretty. I actually used it in a story I wrote.

I don't know why, it seems fairly masculine to me.

Maybe it's because it's similar to the boys name Finn.

It's very lovely. Old favorite of mine, and since I comprehend Welsh I understand the reason why the double "f" is there, and it wouldn't bother me to explain why.

How is it pronounced?

As far as I know fee-on. In Welsh the double f is said like our f, while a single f is said like v. Therefore, Ffion = fee-on, Ifan = ee-van. Anyone who knows 100%, am I right?

yes.Because a normal single 'f' is pronounced as a 'v' in English. Two F's constitute the regular 'f' sound. That's how Myfanwy is mih-VAWN-wee and Ffion is "FEE-on".

Actually it's muh-VAN-wee, because 'y's in Welsh make an 'uh' sound unless they're in the last syllable.
But you're right about Ffion.;)

Oh I didn't know that, thanks for informing me though!

Ffion is an old favorite of mine. I also think the meaning is lovely. It's such an unusual flower to be named after, but there were some foxgloves growing wild not far from where I live just last month and they were stunning. Plus it's nice to have a change from the typical Rose, Lily, Violet flower names. I suppose it doesn't hurt that I love the Welsh language. I think the double f is interesting and at the same time not a huge obstacle. Ffion is really pretty easily pronounceable. I think anyone who wasn't familiar with Welsh would say it just the way it sounds with a quizzical look.

I knew a girl named Ffion. I was "in love" with her LOL (young lad - older girl type smitten love) :) But I have very fond affection for the name as a result.

I want to like it. I really do. But it's visually too close to Fionn and Eifion, so it's really hard for me to get a good feminine feel from it. It might be one of those names I'd have to hear in real life before being able to really picture it and like it.

I really like it! I love the meaning too. I'm not sure I'd use it as a FN but it makes a perfectly awesome and quirky MN. I have Elizabeth Ffion on my long list :)
