I also am starting to love Nathaniel. It is masculine & strong but has a soft side. And there is always nickname potential.

I like Nathaniel. It sounds strong and handsome to me. I'm a Nathaniel Hawthorne fan, so that association adds charm to it.

I prefer it without a nickname by far. Nate and Nathan just aren't my thing.

I've loved this name since learning of Nat Herreshoff, who designed gorgeous wooden sailboats earlier in the last century. I'm really comfortable with the nn of Nat, as well.

I like it. However I feel it's very long to have no nickname. I would choose Nate as a nickname, it's a bit more interesting than Nathan and is cute and spunky :)

I like just Nathan a lot better. Nathaniel is a little whiny to me, I'm not sure why.

Nathaniel is one of my favorite names. I think it's solid, youthful, yet grown-up...really, it's just perfect to me.

I have recently started liking it too.

I've had an off and on relationship with it. I used to like it specifically for the -neil, but now I see it as too Biblical-trendy, and it feels too immature. But I guess that wouldn't be a problem for you as it isn't popular in the UK like here. I don't know what it ranks here, but I swear I know a hundred ones under the age of 4.

I prefer Nathan, which was in the same boat as Nathaniel until I met one in his late 30s. It was able to seem much more mature to me then. Maybe I just need to meet an older Nathaniel, too!

I used to dislike Nathaniel too. But now I find it handsome and distinguished. it makes a great mn too.
