Re: MN choices + Nickname (ETA)
In all of the names listed below in the "New Loves" thread, I almost commented on Aleydis. The sound is gorgeous. Where does it come from? It sounds medieval, like an old form of Adelheidis. I'm guessing you are pronouncing it, "ah-LAY-dis." Is that correct? Aleydis Fleur -- It's not too fancy to me. It's my favorite of all of these. Gorgeous flow. Aleydis Primose -- I'm not a fan of prim and prissy Primrose anyway. But the flow is off here with Aleydis. They both end in an "s" or "z" sound. It's too same-y for my ears.Aleydis Bethan -- Beautiful. Strong. Love it.Aleydis Evelyn -- The "L" sounds bother me here. My ears need more contrasting sounds.Aleydis Octavia -- Yes. Too over the top.Aleydis Bronwen -- Just a smidgeon too tough for me. I suppose I might not have felt this way if Aleydis Bethan wasn't so perfect sounding.Aleydis Flora / Florence -- Again, I'd cross of Florence for the ending-in-the-same-sound offense as Aleydis Primrose. Aleydis Flora is great. I just prefer Aleydis Fleur. Nns: Allie, Lady, Addie, Alix?ETA: A quick google search of Aleydis brought me to name sites that I'm not familiar with so I can't vouch for their authenticity. But they all have Aleydis as a Dutch or german form of Adelaide, which came from the earlier form Adelheidis. Yay, the Information Age! Very handy.

I found the name in 'the girl with the pearl earring' - I'm currently reading it. A little research told me that it's the name of a belgian saint. I just think it sounds so pretty and medieval. Aleydis Fleur is my favourite as well I think, that or Aleydis Bronwen :)I like Lady as a nickname, but not sure if it would work in real life Thank you muchly for your comments

Thanks! Very helpful. It looks as though we were typing at the same time, but yours contains pronunciation guides as well. :-)
