Well, I narrowly escaped being named Georgette, after my father who was George. The mere thought of having nearly landed the name Georgette freaked me out for much of my childhood--I could not have imagined a worse name fate. Maybe Priscilla. Anyway, Gail was a compromise, one I continue to thank my mother for, one that has suited me to a tea and served me really well. So, many years later, I'm still not in the Georgette camp. At all. I have come around to Georgia, though, which I find classy and very ladylike. BTW, Georgette & Vivienne are both classic Franco-American names.

Vivienne is beautiful. Cordelia? The thing with all these names is their ultra-femininity, which at some level you have to want, or at least accept. Which is great if you grow into an ultra-feminine kind of woman, but I certainly didn't, nor do I think I would have even with that kind of name.

So my caveat would be: only use these names if you have a nn that isn't demeaning, by which I mean--some girls might really, really need a nn to escape the cloying quality.
