Re: Your Top Ten Names for the Month of July
Elisabeth "Ellie" - Love Elisabeth, love Elizabeth more but I can get over it. Ellie isn't my preferred nickname, but it's cute. I've been on a big Eli as a nn for Elizabeth kick lately (Eliza's my favorite).
Madeleine - nice enough.
Natalie - can't get on the Natalie train. Seems like it's trying SO hard to be a classic but it's not quite making it (kind of like Samantha).
Rose - I don't know why I dislike this name so much.
Ann / Anne - I love Anne, but it has to have an "e".
Hermione - sounds like "hiney" to me. :/
Catherine - LOVE! Prefer with a "K". You can thank Anne of Green Gables for that.
Virginia - love.
Mary - love.
Lily - nice enough. Rose and Lily seem to be the big flower names du jour, but I've got a thing for Camellia. Boys
Robert - like but don't love.
Thomas - love. So handsome. I'm even starting to warm to the nickname Tom, but never Tommy.
Damien - Hmm... this name doesn't seem to fit with your other names.
Elijah - cute.
Vincent - really like this also.
Ignatius - nice as a middle name.
Gregory - really like this also.
Augustus / Augustine - love!
Joseph - it's growing on me.
Alden - I have a soft spot for this name too. It's got such a pretty sound but I worry that it's too close to the ever trendy Aidan.

Poor Natalie...Natalie gets on the list with the other classics because it's my name and my mother's name. In everyday use, Natalie sounds a lot more elegant and sophisticated than in the occasional roll-it-around-in-your-head use, and I've really enjoyed being a Natalie. I think it beats Samantha out by miles as far as classic feel goes.
