Edited: Awful BA and sibset - why on earth would you do this to your children?
A friend of a friend had her fourth child recently. Shannon and Hogan welcome:Bre'shae KaressShe join big brother Zacchaeus and big sisters Paeghton and Jaydah.Oh lordy! I realize that Zacchaeus is a legit biblical name but it looks made up or an attempt at a 'cool' creative spelling, especially when it is next to Paeghton and Bre'shae. In my opinion, even though I am not a huge fan of the name or the spelling, I think Jaydah got off lightly.ETA: and on the same website where this birth announcement was placed I found another gem:
Moe-Moana and Anaru welcome a baby girl:
Tyaane Tomowai-a-aniwa Elaya-Ellaniya (and then a double barreled last name!)The poor girl, her name is such a mouthful and they gave her 2 last names as well!To explain some of the maori names - the mothers name (Moe-Moana) means sleeping (moe) ocean (moana) and Anaru is listed on this site and is Maori for Andrew. I did some research on the baby's long maori name tomo means to enter and wai means water and when the a is by itself like that is most often means 'at'. So I would guess that the names means to enter the water at Aniwa, I cannot find a meaning for Aniwa but it could be a place name.

Well, I love Zacchaeus and have for a long time. I don't think it looks made up. In fact I think it's a rather sophisticated name. The sisters' names are bad in my opinion, especially Bre'shae. The meaning of Moe-Moana is lovely though the name itself is not really my style. Anauru I like as well. I think you should be careful when judging naming traditions that you aren't familiar with or not part of your culture. Yes, the name is long but I don't think it's awful in anyway (not like Bre'shae) and I'm pretty sure she will only go by one of those names in everyday life.

Oh sorry if it wasn't clear but I am a born and bred New Zealander still living in NZ so I am very familiar with the Maori language and it's naming traditions and that name is not traditional in any way.

naming someone Karess just seems vulgar....

The Maori make some weird name combos but at least it's explainable.

Well It's really not as awful as all that, she'll be Tyaane Lastname-Lastname to most people and that's not bad at all.I like Zacchaeus.

Bre'shae sounds like a type of cheese and Karess makes me think of "caress". Zacchaeus is pretty lucky compared to his sisters' names. Jaydah isn't dreadful, but I definitely don't like it and Paeghton is a terrible spelling.

Jaydah and Zacchaeus got of easy. Not that I like Zacchaeus, but at least he as the nickname Zach to work with.Paeghton and Bre'shae are especially horrible. I'm not even sure how to improve on Bre'shae...
