Catherine
What do you think of the name Catherine by itself with no nickname? I think it looks and sounds much better when spelled that way and not shortened to anything. WDYT of the name, and WDYT of my opinion on it?

I think Catherine is ugly, honestly--it reminds me of Wuthering Heights, the most evil thing any of the Bronte sisters ever did. (I like Charlotte's novels and Anne's poetry much better.) Moreover, the C looks passive and tired to me.
My favourite spelling is Katharine, like Ms. Hepburn, with the nickname Kitty. Kitty just doesn't get the love it deserves, and I think it's sweet and adorable. Plus, I used to watch X-Men: Evolution WAY too much.

its my bff's name so i love it. she goes by catherine most of the time but he family and close friends call her Cas or Cassie (her initials are C.A.S.)
i also have an aunt named Mary Catherine (not a nun, lol) who goes by catherine only.
so basically, i love the name and just by itself. the nn Katie annoys me and i dislike Kathy

raindancing called it:
elegant traditional and feminine with a rich history of usage
Yeah, agreed. And it is nicer than any of its nicknames.
I have to say, though, that I used to work with a Catherine who preferred to be called that way instead of Cathy.. She was trying to shake her childhood name Cathy off. I found myself thinking (for no apparent reason) that it was cold. I mean, it seemed a little cold to require everyone to say the full three syllable Elegant Traditional Feminine Name; like it was a favor she was asking us to do for her, like she was too important to go by some nickname. It was so much friendlier and warmer to call her Cathy.
I think it's a little bit like going by Elizabeth or Victoria or Gabriella, and specifically refusing Liz, Beth, Vicki, or Gabi.. it seems slightly pretentious or fanciful, in certain contexts. It sounds the way I'd expect actors to talk in a bad historical drama.
I'm sure it's somewhat generational, too, and the fact that she'd been called Cathy before probably made it much more noticeable. Besides, she wasn't the warmest person on the planet herself.
I have no problem with using just Catherine. I like the name, and if a woman was introduced to me as Catherine, I'd not be bothered (although I would notice the formality) - I'd just call her that. I just wanted to point out the one impression I had.

I love Catherine by itself. I think that it shouldn't be shortened at all or spelled any other way. It's one of my favorite names of all time and I plan on using it someday. :) Beautiful!
I like it. I prefer the C to the K, and I prefer the full name to its nn's. It's actually my second middle name (I took it for confirmation when I was thirteen, although I'm not really Catholic anymore, I still use the second middle name. I like it better than my given one.)
Catherine is my favorite name of all time it is also my daughters name it is elegant traditional and feminine with a rich history of usage
My daughter was known as Catie until she went to school when upon learning therE was a girl called Katie in her class she decide to go by her full name

I love the name Catherine and prefer that spelling. I also don't really like any of its nicknames. It's on my list for my second daughter's name.
I absolutely adore the name Catherine, it's number 2 on my list. I go back on which spelling I like most Katherine / Katharine, or Catherine. I REALLY love the nn Kate / Cate. I wouldn't love the name Catherine if it weren't for the nn Cate. Kat and Katie are okay too, but I love Kate most. I think Kathy is awful.
