Thoughts on Dexter?
Thoughts on the name Dexter? Like, dislike?
(Besides that it reminds you of Dexter's Laboratory, that doesn't bother me the show doesn't air anymore lol)
Middle name suggestions?

I have never liked this name. It feels very nerdy to me. Plus with the tv show Dexter (where the character Dexter is a serial killer) it now also has a creepy vibe.

I like Dexter. I know a little boy called Dexter also, he's 4 and it really suits him well. I'm unsure how it would sound on anybody 13+ though

Like it! I met my first Dexter last summer, he was from the southern US.

Never heard of Dexter's Laboratory, so that's not an issue. And Dexie's Midnight Runners were a good band. But a Dexter is strictly a breed of cattle in my life, so no. And not Frisian or Jersey either!

lolThe cow association is one I would never have thought of, but it sure made me chuckle!

As I'm sure you know by now because there are several posts under mine lol, Dexter is also a popular HBO show about a serial killer, so... there's that.Anyway, I don't love it, but I like it enough. I like Dex as a nn, but the whole name sounds a bit odd. It reminds me of words that end in -ster. Like a "dexter" could be a hipster, trickster or prankster.

It reminds me of Dexter's Laboratory. Sorry I had to say that.Anyways, I only like it as a dog name. It doesn't sound like a "real" name.

Yeah, I understand. Never watched the show as a kid so I don't have any associations with Dexter's Laboratory, never watched the other show either with the serial killer nor have I met a dog with this name. Thanks for your opinions it doesn't really surprise me lol. I love the name but if I ever do use it I'll probably just keep it as a middle name so he doesn't have any trouble. :))

Dexter, a name I found a bit dorky until it became the name of a serial killer. A very attractive and charismatic, and fake, serial killer...but a serial killer nonetheless. Definitely has helped make the name edgier. I still don't really care for it, but I do see the appeal. Its fresh and modern sounding, but at the same time secretly an older name. Can't see it on someone under 25 for some reason though. :/

exactlyI think the serial killer may have helped Dexter out of his nerdiness and put a bit of an edge on him.

You know what, I kind of like it. I do think the nerd associations are too strong, but I can imagine a very hip guy being named Dexter. Plus, Dex is definitely an awesome nickname.

Reminds me of serial killers, thanks to the TV show. And dogs- lots of people I know have named their dogs Dexter.

I used to find it incredibly dorky because of Dexter's Laboratory but I know a pretty cool Dexter IRL and that has kind of shattered the cartoon association in my mind. I quite like it but not enough to use.

It sounds geeky and always makes me think of the cartoon Dexter's Laboratory. Pretty funny cartoon in my opinion.Still, I'd rather think of an innocent cartoon than an overrated show about a serial killer.

I think Dexter's an incredibly nerdy name. Plus, it reminds of the cartoon show Dexter's Lab (actually, that may be why I think it's a nerdy name). I don't like it.

I don't really like it. It sounds really dorky to me, I think partially because of a kids show called "Dexter's Laboratory" which used to be on when I was a kid.

Yeah I used to think about that too but it doesn't bother me.
