Marie or Miriam?
I know a lot of people don't like Marie as a middle name, because it's filler, but due to the volume of names that I love, Marie/Miriam would fall in the mn spot. It would be to honor my great grandmother Louise Marie and my great grandmother Maria.I really like the simple, classic beauty of Marie, but I can't seem to forget Miriam. Opinions?

Miriam is much nicer, it is just a bit more interesting. Marie is such a common middle name that, even though it's honouring, it may just sound like you chose a generic middle name which sounded OK with the first name, as is often the case. Miriam is much more fresh and interesting, but still sounds good with a lot of first names.

MarieMiriam isn't bad though. I just think Marie sounds sweet and cute.

Miriam is nice because it's unexpected and underused. However, I don't mind people using Marie as a middle name, if they truly love it or it's honoring someone. In these cases, I don't think it should be seen as a filler. In summary, they are both great names and either would be great. Miriam wins by a smidgen though. :-)

I love Marie, but I think I'd go with Miriam. I've met fewer Miriams than I have Maries, so it seems more refreshing to me. I still think it would refreshing to meet a little Marie, though. Despite being very overused as a middle name, it's underused as a first name these days.

What about Mariam?I like Marie as a first name paired with an elegant and/or lyrical middle name, but I am one of those people who generally don't like it used as a middle name. I probably like Miriam more, though I also prefer that as a first name.Have you ever heard the name Mariam or Mariama? That's my favorite version.

I like both, but I'll go with Miriam because of the NN potential (Mira, Miri, Mimi, Mamie, Mima, which is something I just made up.)

MiriamI think Marie is a great mn. I think it's pretty and classic, but is quickly becoming common--I know 2 girls with Marie as their fn and 3 girls with Marie as their mn. Miriam is on my top 20 list and I've always loved it. So I'd say Miriam.

I'd go with Marie if it's to honor someone. I've had this same predicament because Marie is my MIL's mn and her mother's mn, so I think it would be nice to use it if I ever had the chance. I try to retain that it is a simple, sweet little name, and oh well if it's a common mn. I'll know it has meaning and isn't filler, at least! That said, I love Miriam, too, and it would make a more interesting mn. I guess it just depends on how you feel about which names are still qualified as honoring.
