Ack! (ETA)

It's my mother's maiden name. I associate it so strongly with my grandfather that I have a hard time seeing it on a girl. My brother was considering using it for one of his dd's mns, which I had no problem with. As a family surname-mn it's fine. But as a girl's fn? Not attractive in the least to my ears. Much too masculine sounding.
ETA: By way of peace offering for freaking out like that, could I interest you in another Irish surname, like Flannery (as in the author Flannery O'Connor) or Kinsella? They sound more feminine to me. (Apologies to any Flannerys or Kinsellas out there that object.)
