...not if it was something I really hated. I have cousins called Caroline and Catherine who've managed to escape nicknames for nearly 30 years, and a father called Charles who is never Chas or Charlie - but they've had to constantly insist, and I couldn't be bothered with that, especially if the child itself liked the horrible nn.
