I actually don't mind having kids go by the full name. I want it to be their choice if they want to go by a nickname, not their parents'. For example, my sister is Nicole, and nobody would dare call her Nikki.
One example I have is Christina. I don't like any of its nicknames (especially not Tina), but I like the name Christina by itself. Same with Victoria. Vicky is alright. I don't like Tori, but I love Victoria by itself.
