Oh, I think Liv is lovely and I pronounce it the same way you do; have never heard it pronounced "LEEV" and don't care for that at all.
To me, Liv is one of the short names which feels complete on her own. Her brevity lends her spunk, but she also has elegance; I think she ages well. I would not assume Liv was a nickname for Olivia and I think there's a good chance the general public wouldn't either, as they've likely heard of actress, Liv Tyler.
