Gaius?
I tend to like -us names for boys lately, like Linus, Atticus, Lucius, etc. I was thinking of Gaius the other day, and thought it would worth a post. Any opinions on the name? Could you see it on a child or is it suitable only for characters?

Children: Ohhhhh.
Father: I'm afraid I have no choice but to sell you all for scientific experiments.

I prefer Caius to Gaius but I would have no problem imagining either name on a living, breathing person. I quite like Roman names.

Ditto what chazda said about Gaius. But Caius is really cool. I had twin sims named Caius and Niall once.

Well, at the school where I watch the children during breaks, there's a little boy called Caius, very close to the original spelling and pronounciation. When his sister, Philippine, first mentioned his name to me I didn't quite 'get' the name, but having seen it on paper and used it, it has grown on me and I think it fits him. So yes, it is suitable for a real life boy in my opinion.

I really cant see Gaius as a childs name, sadly the teasing potential is too great Caius is better, I like the other three you mention
Lucius and Julius are my two favorite -us names,
Cornelius Augustus Horatius Ignatius Tertius Valerius Archelaus and Octavius are interesting too

I'm a Latin geek so all I see is Gaius Iulius Caesar! Caius would be a better variant IMO. Gaius is only a character name IMO, definitely not a little child's name.Linus, Atticus and Lucius are great. Just Atticus is so entwined with "To Kill a Mockingbird" now.

I'd have a major concern that too many people will read it and perceive "gay" in it.Caius, though, I can totally picture. Neat. Also, I ran across Lucanus today - not as a first name but among a bunch of Roman names (loo-CAIN-us).- chazda

No, no, no. This is the worst out of the 4 IMO. I can't stand it! It sounds like a horrible, greedy, slimy old man. Not a happy child!

I really don't know. I'd have to hear it actually spoken to give an opinion. It's just something I have to do before giving an opinion. If it's hard to look at and know the pronounciation (sp?), I'd veto it. I know what it's like to have a name everyone says wrong.
