Nava / Nessa
DH and I have finally decided on Arielle Norah to honor her great-grandmothers (Dh's grandmother and my grandmother.) However, now the challenge is to come up with her Hebrew name. The FN will be Ariel, but for the MN, we are stuck on Nava and Nessa. We both like both of them a lot- which do you like better? Edited to say: Nava means beautiful, and Nessa means miracle.- MelissaIt's a girl!

In Hebrew, Ariel is a boy's name...I prefer Nava. Ariel Nava is lovely.

Nessa sounds much better to me. Nava has a nice meaning but the way the name sounds is nms. How about Nissa with the pronunciation NEE-sa? It seems less like a nickname than Nessa does. People might assume that Nessa is short for Vanessa. The only problem is that Nissa might be mispronounced.

Between Nava and Nessa - I like Nessa best. Arielle Norah is absolutely beautiful! And how special that the name has such deep meaning for both of you. She'll love hearing how/why she was named. Great choice ;)

I like Nessa bestI think Nessa sounds softer than Nava."But it’s all right now.

I much prefer Nessa though I have loved them both for some time.
Nessa is just much softer, imo. I tried to get my friend to use Nessa because of it's meaning; it's just so perfect.
I'm not a fan of Ariel on a girl, but I think Ariel Nessa is cute anyway.-Seda*

We're using Ariel as the FN because her English name is Arielle, and the closest name to that in Hebrew is Ariel, which can be for both boys and girls.- MelissaIt's a girl!

I vote for Nava, just because I'd rather have it myself - as a matter of taste. It's more dramatic and less precious in sound and meaning than Nessa. However, I suggest you choose it when you see her... I predict one will seem to "fit" better than the other :-)- chazda

I like both names, and the meanings are darling.
But I think Ariel Nava flows slightly better than Ariel Nessa. I think it's the 'e' sounds that are too close. Also, according to this web site, Ariel Nava would have the rough meaning of "beautiful lion of god"... I think ... ???However, I'm basing this on the way I'M pronouncing the names. In Hebrew it might be much different. How often are these names used? Are they spoken or written more often? Those kind of things would have impact on which name I would consider.

I prefer Nessa. Even though Nava is probably pronounced NAH-va, it makes me think of the Navy, and navels.
Arielle Norah is beautiful, by the way.

Thank you- I understand the Nava-Navy-navel connection- however, I don't think I'll have much of a problem with it because mostly it will be written in Hebrew. - MelissaIt's a girl!

NessaI love Nessa. Am not familiar with it as a name on its own, but as NN for Agnes (and Vanessa I guess, but I don't really care for that name).
Nava doesn't sound nice to me ( maybe too close to naval / navel?) but I'm not sure how you pronounce it.
Ariel is nms, but it is what you have picked, so I would say I think Ariel Nessa is the best.
