I say LIE-lack.

I think it's pretty, but bordering on guilty pleasure. It's also not as soft as similar names like Lily and Lila.

It's harshness is what I am in doubt about. Will the "ack" part grate on me after a long time? Who can know... Thanks for your input.

Lye-lack

Lilac is okay but there are nicer nature names out there.

I say lye-lack. I don't think it is namey enough in sound ... the "ack" sound makes it seem contrived. Seems flimsy like Tulip or Daffodil. The color is too pale and delicate to be inspiring (I feel the same way about Lavender, Cyan, and Saffron).

It needs a quirky or even kooky middle name. Traditional-pretty names don't sit right near it IMO.

My grandmother used to have lilac bushes and every mother's day we had dinner at her house and she gave each mother her own bouquet. It's a wonderful memory. So for me Lilac is inspiring. I can understand what you mean though.

Lilac Paisley is so wordy it makes it great.
Piera Lilac is nice too

I pronounce it lye-lack. It sounds better to me that way.

I love Lilac as a name. It's beautiful and very underused as a flower name. I'd love it as a first or middle name.

I like these best:

Lilac Celeste- I wouldn't use this but I do like the way it flows
Lilac Ariadne- this is nice but maybe a 3rd name would balance it somehow?
Wilhelmina Lilac flows gorgeously
Lilac Ilaria- this is my favorite. Ilaria adds a softness and a good flow

I like Lilac. I say lye-lack. I don't think I could ever use it though, it's sound is a little strange to me, even though I like it for other people's kids.

I pronounce it lye-lack. I have never heard the other pronounciation before.
I like it better as a middle name. It seems a bit contrived as a first name.

Lye-lack, and I really like it. We have lots of lilacs in our garden, which I love, so it has good associations to me as well. :)

I like it. Very spunky. I do slightly prefer the softer sounding but equally spunky (IMO) Lila/Lilah, but I do like Lilac too.
