Martin?
My husband has recently decided that Martin is his new favorite boys name. I can't make up my mind. He thinks Marty is an awesome nickname, but I don't like it. Marty makes me think of Marty McFly and my high school band teacher. If we did use Martin, I would only ever call him Martin, but I know my husband and many of my other family members would call him Marty. I told him we could put it on the list (we are expecting a boy in June) but that I hadn't decided whether I like it or not yet.
What do you think of Martin and Marty? He likes the combo Martin Nathanial.

I like Martin, but I don't like the nickname Marty. I find Marty to be dated. Martin is very nice on its own.
aw, I quite like Martin. It is rather adorably bumbly. It seems like a nice-guy kind of name - hardworking, simple, generous, a secret dreamer. I imagine the kind of guy who works in a butcher shop who also has a secret notebook of poems or invention schematics. I'm not normally a fan of Nathaniel (did you mean this spelling?) but I like how it elevates Martin to something a bit more genteel - that must be where I'm getting that "secret dreamer" vibe from. The shared n ending-beginning trips me up a bit, but the names look great together.
I really like Martin, mostly because of the nn Marty, mostly because of Back to the Future :)
I like Martin quite a bit, and Marty has grown on me considerable over the years. If you can find it in you to appreciate Marty, I think Martin would be a lovely name for your son.
For me a name I am indifferent too can sometimes be salvaged by a great nickname. I am pretty indifferet about Martin, so I tried to come up with a sweet nickname. Nothing. I read all the other posts too. Tincho is cute, but a little silly if you're in an English-speaking country. So I'm stuck. Basically I could care less about Martin and MArty does nothing to redeem it in my eyes.
I love Nathaniel - especially as a middle name. But I'm not sure I like how the n of Martin runs into the N of Nathaniel. One of my pet peeves. Sorry for being a poop.
Good luck with the pregnancy and the naming.

My husband and I like the Spanish version MARTÍN pronounced Mahr-TEEN. The nickname for MARTÍN in Spanish is "Tincho" pronounced TEEN-cho.
I don't like the nn Marty. I do like Martin; I just happen to prefer the Spanish pronunciation over the English pronunciation.
I like Martin Nathanial as a combo and I would love to see a little Martin.
One of my favorite combos is Martin Sebastian which sounds nice in English and Spanish :)

Martin's not terrible. In my opinion, I don't think it really needs a nickname. Martin's just fine as it is.
Martin... makes me think of the other Sheen. The Sheen that isn't Charlie!
Martin itself reminds me of Martin Prince from the Simpsons. Marty reminds me of Back to the Future, that and Marty Janetty.
I'd like the combo Martin Nathanial better as either 'Martin Nathaniel' or Martin Nathnael'. (especially the latter) Seeing Nathaniel/Nathanael spelled with an A there just looks akward.

I love Martin. Its my surname and I wasn't going to keep it when getting married, I would probably use it as a middle name myself.
I think its quirky and cute, and so seldomly used. I am not sure if I like Marty though. I think Tinny could be cute or maybe Mari (mar-ee).
I would probably call a little Martin, Mar-Mar, but obviously that isn't very practical :).
Martin Nathaniel is great!
