WDYT of Ariadne?

Yes this is an Inception inspired name question, and I'm not as a rule a fan of Greek names, but I REALLY like this name. I do want other opinions though, and please no spoilers because I haven't seenthe whole movie. :) So what do you think of Ariadne?

I love it... I had a combo I loved it but I can't remember what that was (maybe Ariadne Lorelei...) but yeah I love it. I was originally going to call my cat this but my mum gave me funny looks. So I named my iPod Ariadne instead.
I'd love to come across a real life Ariadne.

LOVE the name. My best friend's sister's full name is Ariadne. She's really nice, and she is considered a best friend to me, too. That probably has something to do with why I like the name...

I love it. I think it's a beautiful name. It's not common at all, but it's not too exotic either. ETA: My favorite pronunciation of the name is air-ee-AD-nee. Not that horrible "ahd" sound in the middle like it's pronounced in Inception.

No offense, but I think Ariadne is one of those overly pretentious names. I've never seen Inception, but I remember the name being used for a baby on the US tv show Judging Amy, it just seemed one of those "look at me I'm so smart" hipster names.

Haha I guess I can see that. I don't want to say this the wrong way, but I kinda like bordering-on-pretentous names that have cute, simple, and/or common nns, like Benedict too. I don't know, I guess it a just a style thing. But thanks for the input, it's always good to have different opinions, especially if I were ever goig to actually use it. :)

Despite what this website says it's pronounced as an English name (ar-ee-AD-nee), my friend who has this name pronounces it ar-ee-AD-nay, which I like much better than ar-ee-AD-nee.

My motto when it comes to names is "Just because it's Greek, doesn't mean I'll like it." This definitely the case with Ariadne. That 'd' in the middle makes my tongue stumble, and it sounds pretty frumpy to boot.

Idefinately share your Greek sentiments. As I said I generlly don't like Greek names, but this one is a little different. I'll keep the d in mind though. Thank you. :)

I like it! I've never seen Inception and so the only association I have is the Greek one, but I like the name. Especially with the nickname Ara, Ari, or Aria.

Love it, but pronounced "ah-ree-AD-nee". Not the way DiCaprio says it in the film ("air-ee-AHD-nay") - bleh!

I completely agree it would definately be an ahh sound to start the name. And nee at the end. I didn't even notice he said it with an ay sound at the end. That seems wierd. :)

Ariadna isn't bad, I typically like the ah sound better than the ee sound at the end of names. The problem win Arianna is that I have known someone with that name since I was very young, and although she isn't a bad association, it would still be wierd (especially since we have the same birthday). Thank though for your input. :)
