I had a teacher in elementary school named Freddie (full name). I can see Freddie working on its own. People will most definitely tell you it's childish etc etc but I just don't see the point in giving a child a name that in real life never will be his name. In general I think Fredrick is a nice name but if you never going to call him Fredrick don't use it.
