I think it's one of the nicest flower names and definitely usable, but it was never megapopular where I live. I think there was quite an American outbreak in the 80s ...
Same, it was never REALLY popular here.
I've always been on the fence about it. I think I would like it, but the only Heather I know IRL is someone who kind of creeps me out.
I'd love it if it was just a plant name, but now it's not just a plant name anymore; it's also an 80's name. For that reason alone I wouldn't use it. I really would like it if it was still more like Sage and Linnea than Jennifer and Kimberley.
It's much less common than it used to be, but because I have a lot of peers named Heather, I wouldn't use it as a first name. I think it's a pretty name, though.
I think of the early 1980s. Definitely dated.
I've had it on my list for a while now. It was pretty frequent among my peers growing up in California (I was born in 1971). I used to dislike it, because I associated it with H. Locklear and the movie "Heathers." But then I had a dark-haired, soft-voiced friend named Heather, who always dressed super sharp and carried herself like someone powerful. So now, my memory of what she was like is what I associate with the name... independent, softspoken, and sexy in a dignified, confident, feminine way. Kind of a power name.
I probably wouldn't name a daughter Heather, though, since I have the feeling it'd be to her peers the way Charlotte was to mine (a little too dated to fit in, a little bit too strong in the way it sounded, a little bit too weak in the images it evokes). It'd still be a good name, but I think I'd rather have it myself than name a baby it today.

Dated-very 70's, early 80's. Kind of Valley girl/mall girl. The movie Heathers.
