I honestly just like Lorelei... I read Lorelei first, so Lorelai just seems like an odd/awkward spelling to me, even if the pronunciation makes more sense.

If I saw Laurelie, I'd say Laurel + ee. If you want to put "Laurel" in it, I'd definitely use Laurelai or something.
