Lovely Twinset
New Zealand TV and radio personality Gary McCormick and his wife Katherine welcomed identical twin girls recently:Florence Pearl and Kathleen BridieI think they are lovely classic sounding names, only problem I have (and it is very small) Kathleen and Katherine are very similar names but I guess there is nothing wrong with that.

How is Bridie pronounced?

Bride + ee

So lovely! I love Kathleen's retro, unpretentious sweetness; Bridie buzzes with unadulterated Scottish charm; and Florence Pearl is delicate and genteel.

I was feeling it until I got to Bridie. Way too precious, imo. Bridget or even Brighid would work better.

Kathleen is like naming someone "little Katherine" so it probably honors her mom.Florence Pearl is nice but I think I would like Bridie Kathleen better, it just flows more nicely I think. They are a great twin set though. Fantastic really!

Why is Kathleen like "little Katherine"?

Kathleen : Katherine
Maureen : Mary
Eileen : EveMy irish grandmother once explained to me that names such as the above were used casually as diminutives of the more formal name in Ireland. Now this may be family based or county based or generationally based, I don't know. I'm not saying that the exact meanings are "Little this or that" but I do know that they have been used that way in the past.BTW my grammie was a Kathleen (Kay), daughter of Katherine and her cousin Mary Eileen (Sis) was daughter of Aoife Maureen.
So I know it was a tradition in her family at least.....then again. I feel as if I have had this re-iterated by other people... IDK anymore! :-)

Are they honouring names? It seems that they might be. Congratulations to them, darling names.

I like Florence Pearl. Kathleen is okay, but I don't like Bridie at all.

They are very nice. I really like Kathleen Bridie. I totally have a thing for nicknames as middle names, anyway.
