Too flakey to use, for me anyway. Because the word and its usage are so ... stuffy? (the cliche "halcyon days" is what springs to mind). If it was only the name of a bird, it might be cool. Anyways, I think a person who was really named that would not face too much flak about it, because people get used to each other's names, and it's not stupid ... it's just too far-out an impression for my taste.Definitely more boyish sounding, to me.

Agreed."Too far-out" is a good way to put it, especially because "halcyon days" is what first popped into my mind as well.

Alcyone seems more boyish to me. But I don't see why Halcyon couldn't be used for a boy too.
