Daphne
What are your thoughts on the name Daphne. What type of image does it evoke for you. My husband and I were discussing this one last night and it may make our list.

It seems cheerful and energetic to me. I like it. The probable nn of Daffy might be a concern, though.

I really like Daphne. It sounds so spring-like and happy to me and I love the way it looks written down. I've only known one, a co-worker, and we all called her Daffy (at her insistence). Why, I don't know since Daphne is much, MUCH better, imo. That's my main problem with the name; Daffy isn't the most flattering nn, is it?I picture someone friendly, witty and artistic.

I like it- it's a sweet, simple name. A little preppy, but not that bad. I give it a 6 out of 10.

Smart, together, with-it, in control. And lovable. Great name. Let us know when you have combos ready!

I think Daphne from Scooby Doo of course!! :)
I love the name Daphne, it's so cute and girly!
Although, it does remind me of in the 9th grade when me and my friends would make code names for boys. Daphne was one... :) haha! But, other than that somewhat odd connotation, I think Daphne's adorable!

I like it. Since I'm a gardener, I think of the flower, and because of the small but fragrant flowers, for a person, I think of a small, shy, sweet girl.

Not really a huge fan. I can see the appeal though.Unfortunately for me it brings to mind a fussy blonde in any generic British sit-com from the 70s :/

I like Daphne a lot, but I probably would never use it because for me it's very tied to the character on Frasier, Daphne Moon. She's the first person I think of when I hear the name and because it's my favorite TV show, I wouldn't want my child thinking she was named after the character.

I like it! My great-grandmother's name is Daphne.I think of a girl who's sweet, well mannered, playful, tall, pretty.

I picture someone who is ditzy, shallow, rich & into her looks. However the only Daphne I know of is off of Scooby Doo & that's how she came off to me.

Personally, I love this name! It makes me think of a young woman who is really fashionable, with a funky style.

Daphne is inextricably linked to the Scooby Doo character for me, sadly. That's all I can think of when I hear the name.

I like it. It makes me think of the nymph in the legend, or of Daphne du Maurier.

I won't say I hate it but it is one of my least favorite names. I really can't stand the sound of it (I feel the same about Phoebe, Esme etc).

I like this name and was on my list. I think of a blue eyed, curly blonde little girl. Right now, though, it is popping up around here and I don't want my child to be one of three just because I didn't think anyone else would use it. Also, my nephews would not let me get past the Scooby Doo association.

I like it a lot- I think part of it is the familiarity of the name to me as I grew up on a street with the name as a kid. But recently, I have met my first real life Daphne and she has become a dear friend of mine at college. She is quiet but very funny and witty, studious, extremely talented but very humble and very creative. So that is the image it now evokes for me.

I absolutely love Daphne, it's one of my top names. To me it brings to mind a lighthearted but determined girl with a wide array of talents. Also, there is this AWESOME tiny animal that lives in pond water called a Daphnia. I hope this doesn't put you off the name because really, it's AWESOME:

They ARE awesome! All the girls at my university love them. They are cultivated in little artificial ponds at our biology department and the students get to watch and feed them under the microscope.

Is that thing visible to the naked eye? Do you swallow that thing if you go swimming in a pond?

You swallow them and then you're immune to evil

Yes, Daphnia is visible to the naked eye if you look closely and if there is enough food in the water which makes their bodies less transparent. You do swallow them swimming in a pond if they are in it but they are completely harmless and soooo cute under the microscope. You might know them as "water fleas".

I like the look and sound of Daphne but in my head there's that image of a spoiled brat called Daphne. I can't get over it. Daphne is a brat name to me.

I feel like I've been quite negative lately in my opinions, but what the heck, I'll be honest....besides, I have a feeling I'll be in quite the minority in this, so think of it as an opposing viewpoint.I just hate the name Daphne. It makes me think of the word "daffy" and Daffy Duck. I think of a loud, annoying, eccentric middle-aged woman with frizzy, out-of-control hair.
