I've loved Alice since forever, and was recently delighted to find one on (a branch of) my family tree. For want of enough daughters, I had a cat named Alice for over 20 years!Alice Penelope is very good; also Alice Margaret (firms it up nicely), Alice Emily (wonderfully Victorian) and Alice Julia. Ophelia has never appealed.

I love Alice! I think it can suit a lot of personalities. I like the old-fashioned vibe it has, and it's feminine but not overly so. Alice Penelope is particularly nice.

I've never liked Alice before, and am not currently going through the change of heart you seem to be having. :-)Personally, I've always found Alice to be very melancholy. There's no energy in it, no "spark." The only way I would ever use it is for a tragic character in a story with Gothic themes/undertones. I could never name a girl Alice.

Aw. Alice Mary was my grandmother's name, so I'm biased. Grandpa called her Alsie. :-)Alice sparkles. How intelligent she is, and light as air. Alice Penelope is wonderful. It reminds me of a stock combo I have, Alice Parthenope. Others you might like:Alice Matilda

I like Alice... it makes me think of Alice in Wonderland but that's definitely not a bad thing IMO.
Ophelia and Penelope are EXACTLY the style of names that I like as middle names for Alice :) Also maybe Catherine, Persephone, Lucasta, Johanna, or Leonora? I'm not thinking of very many today...

I really like it. It is sweet, soft & feminine but not frilly or over the top girly. Even though it is old fashioned, it still has a young feel to me.
My husband's cousin named their first daughter Alice & that has caused me to like it even more.
