I really like Asa and can picture him as a sib to Peter. This is based purely on sound and the fact that the names are complementary to one another (biblical). I've never known an Asa. I think I'd remember -- it's such as unusual name.

I love this name! It's one of the few boys names I love. I am apprehensive about using it because I am afraid that around here people would read the name as ass-a and I just don't know if I could do that to my kid. I first heard it in the movie Fancy Dancing starring Jason Priestley (the movie made me laugh). I put it on my list because I was sure there would never be another Asa in his class.

It's in my top ten, and if I were to miraculously give birth to a son today, I'd name him Asa Phillip. :)

Sometimes I forget how much I like this name because I don't hear it mentioned here much. I imagine a very "wise gentleman" type when I hear this name.

I love Asa. I would love to use it, but my husband isn't crazy about it. I also worry that it's too close to Ava. The first time I'd ever heard it was on a show called Bug Juice that came on the Disney Channel when I was like 11. So, I tend to associate it with the Asa that was on there. Asa Daniel is the combo I have on my list. I also like Asa Nathaniel and Asa Benjamim.

I loooooovvve the name Asa. Its been on my list for ages.

No associations or impressions, I've never met one, and I've never heard of Asa Grey (until now). But it's very spunky, sharp. Very fresh.

I think it's a nice name. It's very calming and caring and earthy and organic. It also makes me think of lions for some reason.

Sorry to differ with you, but I don't like it. I think it sounds kind of slick and smarmy - just the sound of it. It doesn't sound strong or manly to me. And it's so Hebrewy - I guess I think of Hebrewy names as 19th-century and conservative; and they make me think of the Bible.

I like Asa. It's one of the few Hebrew names I actually like.

I first heard it on a soap opera character, which usually dooms a name for me. But I loved the sound of it and it is a classic, so I quickly got over the association. (Sometimes those writers get it right.)

Asa sounds so intelligent and sharp (in a good way). And how can anyone resist the nn Ace? Asa Nathaniel? Dominic Asa?

I met one recently. An Englishman transplanted in Finland. He said he was named after a Scottish footballer who played with a major heart problem.
