I'd laugh if I met a Sherlock, but it'd actually be pretty cool if someone could pull it off.

I can't say that I'd fancy it as a first name on a real boy, because of the possibility of Shirley. But added to a solid-but-dull first name, it would be great fun. James Sherlock Lastname, William Sherlock Lastname, Thomas Sherlock Lastname: all looking good to me.

I've always rather enjoyed the notion of two bloodhounds (or bassets, actually, depending on one's dogfood budget) named Sherlock and Mycroft. I agree, the mn slot is safer for humans, and I see no reason at all not to use it. William Sherlock; Will Sherlock; aha, got it! Robin Hood's merry man, Will Scarlet. Not an association everyone might have ... and it does flow well.

Nope.Ever hear of the expression, "No shit, Sherlock"?That should be reason enough.

Sherlock Holmes and "No shit, Sherlock!" are the only two things I thing of, so no I'd not use it for a child.

No dip Sherlock! It's complete garbage in my opinion!

NoThere's only one (obvious) association, and the name itself sounds ugly.

YesI really do. yes people will make the associated alot at first, but once they get over it, it's a really nice name. I like it

Oh dearMethinks the association is just a wee mite too strong! :o) But it would make a wicked middle name.
vote up1
Possibly as a middle name. I would never use it as a first name.
Example
Isaac William Sherlock White
James Sherlock Henderson
It works like a surname because well that is what it is but given it's popularity and association I fear use as a first name would have consequences.

Love SHolmes, but no can't see it being a name these days.

No, I'd find it very silly.

Honestly,I think it's completely cool. :)The only possible drawback I can see is his hearing that phrase a lot...similar to "No sharpies, Sherlock!"
